Deportivo Independiente Medellín, also known as Independiente Medellín or DIM, is a Colombian professional football club based in Medellín that currently plays in the Categoría Primera A. They play their home games at Estadio Atanasio Girardot, which seats 40,943 people, and is also shared with city rivals Atlético Nacional. The team is dubbed "El Poderoso de la Montaña" (Mighty of the Mountain) due to Medellín's geographical location high in the Andes mountains, and as a reference to the many amateur titles it won in its early years. Founded in 1913 as the second oldest club in Colombia, Independiente Medellín has won the Categoría Primera A six times: in 1955, 1957, 2002–II, 2004–I, 2009–II, and 2016–I, and the Copa Colombia three times: in 1981, 2019, and 2020. Paisa (region)
A Paisa is someone from a region in the northwest of Colombia, including part of the West and Central ''cordilleras'' of the Andes in Colombia. The Paisa region is formed by the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda and Quindío. Some regions of Valle del Cauca Department (north) and Tolima Department (west) culturally identify as ''paisas''. The main cities of the Paisa region are Medellín, Pereira, Manizales and Armenia. The name Paisa derives from the Spanish apocope of ''Paisano'' (fellow countryman), but they are also known as "Antioqueños" (those from the old Antioquia, which included the other Paisa provinces, which was a single administrative body until the creation of the Caldas State in 1905). 2019 Copa Colombia
The 2019 Copa Colombia, officially the 2019 Copa Águila for sponsorship reasons, was the 17th edition of the Copa Colombia, the national cup competition for clubs of DIMAYOR. The tournament was contested by 36 teams, beginning on 13 February and ending on 6 November, with Independiente Medellín winning their second title by defeating Deportivo Cali in the finals by a 4–3 aggregate score and qualifying for the 2020 Copa Libertadores. Atlético Nacional were the defending champions, but were knocked out of the competition by Deportes Tolima in the quarterfinals. The tournament was notable for being the sixth and last year of El Dorado. Atlético Nacional won the league for 1st time in its history after getting 31 points. The tournament was started on August 15, with the match Atlético Municipal against Universidad. 10 teams compete against one another and played each weekend until December 19th. ''El Clásico Paisa'' is the name for the rivalry between the teams of Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín. They share Estadio Atanasio Girardot, with a capacity of over 40,000.
